Detox is a natural process of cleaning the body which is done by the liver and kidneys. But sometimes we overload ourselves with toxins through food, drugs and alcohol which leads to the sluggishness of these organs due to overwork and hence the body needs external help to flush out the toxins. In modern medical science there are several medically induced detoxifications, like Alcohol Detoxification, Drug Detoxification and even Dialysis which is performed on patients when their kidneys stop functioning. The first two involve counselling and some medicines and the last one is actually not a detoxification, but a way of prolonging the functioning of kidney which stops working on its own due to disease.

A toxin is a harmful substance produced within living cells or organisms; synthetic toxicants created by artificial processes are thus excluded. The term was first used by organic chemist Ludwig Brieger, derived from the word toxic.

By detoxing our bodies, we can prevent a series of health conditions that can start with the exposure to the toxins. So many toxins and toxic substances roam the world we live in, making us vulnerable to their effect. There are chemical toxins in our food, air, and even in our favourite gadgets. Pesticides, mercury, and even uranium are among those that contribute to health deterioration. We will look into the ways that will help you detox your body and be healthy.

Drink plenty of water

Water does so much more than quench your thirst. It regulates your body temperature, lubricates joints, aids digestion and nutrient absorption, and detoxifies your body by removing waste products. Water is a natural source for flushing away bad substances — the more you drink, the faster toxins from your body will leave through your urinary tract. There is a great water-based drink that can help cleanse your body — simply add 2 table spoon of organic apple vinegar to one gallon of water and shake it. Drink daily in the morning.

Avoid sugars and processed foods

Refined sugars/ artificial sweeteners and processed foods cause the body to block its natural metabolism and build up too much glucose in the blood. Thus creating a vicious cycle of weight gain, as well as a chance of getting diabetes and heart diseases. Swapping to organic brown sugar, maple syrup, other healthy sweeteners and home foods will do the trick. You will notice that your body needs to get rid of sugar when your cravings for sweets begin to grow.

Eat organic/ antioxidant food

Organic vegetables, fruits, and meat do not contain toxins such as pesticides or antibiotics. Going organic will improve your metabolism and help your digestive system work better on removing the unnecessary toxic elements from your body. The processed food will never provide as many nutrients as the organic. Grow your own vegetables — plant an indoor garden or buy from local farmers.

Eating a diet rich in antioxidants can help your body fight oxidative stress caused by excess free radicals and other toxins that increase your risk of disease. Focus on getting antioxidants from food and not supplements, which may, in fact, increase your risk of certain diseases when taken in large amounts.

Examples of antioxidants include vitamin A, vitamin C, vitamin E, selenium, lycopene, and lutein. Berries, fruits, nuts, cocoa, vegetables, spices, and beverages like coffee and green tea have some of the highest amounts of antioxidants.

Use activated charcoal

Activated charcoal is essentially burned wood, debris, or even coconut shells. The burned substance has no oxygen and becomes very absorbent. It can literally remove most of the toxins, heavy metals, and poisons from your body. It is advised to take a pill before a meal or alcohol consumption.

Clear the air from toxins

Toxins and toxic substances may enter your house through open windows. So, purifying the air is a good idea to make sure you don’t breathe the bad stuff _ get an air purifier and it will do the job. Simple dusting the furniture and cleaning the floor with a wet mop every now and then will also help.

Fasting from time to time

It is human psychology to eat and eat more. And most of what we binge on consists of processed foods and refined sugars. Fasting for a day or two can help cleanse your body from harmful substances, as well as prepare it for a more healthy diet by lowering your appetite.

Exercise Everyday

Regular exercise, regardless of body weight, is associated with a longer life and a reduced risk of many conditions and diseases, including diabetes, heart disease, high blood pressure, and certain cancers. Sweating is a natural way of cleaning the body from toxins. The more you sweat, the cleaner you become. Don’t forget to take a shower afterward to clean your skin from all the sweat!

Eat Prebiotic Foods

Good gut health starts with prebiotic, a type of fiber that feeds the good bacteria in your gut called probiotics. With prebiotic, your good bacteria are able to produce nutrients called short-chain fatty acids that are beneficial for health. Gut health is important for keeping your detoxification system healthy. Your intestinal cells have a detoxification and excretion system that protects your gut and body from harmful toxins, such as chemicals.

Bad bacteria can weaken your immune and detoxification systems and increase your risk of disease and inflammation. Eating foods rich in prebiotic can keep your immune and detoxification systems healthy. Good food sources of prebiotic include tomatoes, artichokes, bananas, asparagus, onions, garlic, Yoghurt, and oats .

Changing your eating habits may be very effective in getting your body detoxed. Eating a lot of raw dietary fiber can help improve your digestion and, therefore, help cleanse your system naturally. Make smoothies with fruits and vegetables or probiotic foods such as kefir or yogurt. You can play around with the ingredients just as long as you make sure they stay raw.

Ion-water detox

Ion-water detox is another way of ridding your body of toxins. Beauty salons have this option after a pedicure. You can also buy this gadget online and use it at home.
